Farewell 2011!

It's with misty eyes that we say goodbye to 2011 with the last Spoonfed newsletter of the year. Yes we know it's not even Christmas yet, but we've got homes to go to the same as you. 2011 has been a year of pop-up shops, pop-up protests, and pop-up riots; a year we'll remember for Royal Weddings, Paul Daniels being hit with a pizza, and for the words “Fenton! Oh Jesus Christ!”

And what would December be without a good round-up article? So this week we took a look back at the last 12 months in art, comedy and clubbing. And while you're there, check out our art predictions for 2012. We also went to check out Secret Cinema to see what all the fuss is about, and we explored the schizophrenic world of The Bronx. Finally, if you're panicking about Christmas prezzie ideas, fear not, Spoonfed's Christmas gift guide is all the inspiration you need.

The Christmas special!

Friday 16th

Don't have anybody to smooch under the mistletoe this year? Get involved at Live Art Speed Date, which combines performance art with good old fashioned matchmaking.

We suggest checking out magical puppet show A Very Old Man With Enormous Wings at Little Angel Theatre for a bit of Christmas cheer.

And Once Upon a Wintertime, a huge yuletide wonderland which inclues a market, a roller disco and a festive banquet, takes place across the weekend at Hackney Downs Studios.

Saturday 17th

Legendary British DJ Greg Wilson is back for another winter disco at East Village, while 2manyDJs headline their annual Soulwaxmus throwdown at Brixton Academy.

It's the last weekend before Christmas, and if you still haven't got your shopping done, head down to the awesome Secret Emporium Market on Sunday for some excellent boutique stocking fillers.

Or if you want to squeeze the last bit of clubbing out of the weekend, Sunday party people Kubicle celebrate their 6th birthday with an all day party.

Christmas Week

Two of London's super-clubs are carrying the torch for Boxing Day raving this year. Firstly, Brixton Electric put on a Cadenza label showcase, while over at Fabric every single Rinse FM DJ joins together for one big bass-filled Boxing Day banger. Two perfect opportunities to dance off that Christmas dinner.

If you manage to get time to do anything else in between watching DVDs and sales shopping, stand-up comic Tim Key has an excellent show at the Soho Theatre, while Spoonfed favourite Stewart Lee is also on across the week. On the live music circuit, promoters God Don't Like It are sadly calling it a day, but not before four massive farewell shows at The Lexington.

New Year's Eve

It's the biggest date on the clubbing calendar and true to form the big boys are out in force. Don't miss our handy guide to the best New Year's Eve parties across the capital, so you can say goodbye to 2011 in the same way you saw it in - drunk and at a party.

Although if you fancy something a little different than your bog standard club night, check out our guide to alternative New Year's Eve, with everything from vintage parties to fetish balls.

And with that, we'll see you on the other side! Merry Christmas!
